14 Oct The Top 1 Thing to Remember When Creating a Presentation
Who has time for a Top 10 list these days? Here is the single most important thing to remember when creating a presentation:
1. It’s not all about you.
Typically a presentation develops as a reaction to being asked to explain (or justify) something. The first task most people attack is a list of points to make during the session. The strategy is to make those points early in the presentation. The outline typically follows a familiar structure:
1. Why my company is brilliant.
2. How my personal brilliance came about.
3. The need for your company to benefit from my company’s brilliance.
HOWEVER, that’s not what you audience cares about. Which brings me to The One Thing: It’s not about you.
